Academic Awards

The Zonta Club of Kenmore will hold their Awards night on Wednesday, June 4, 2018.  Academic Awards, which include High School Seniors and Women Returning to the Workforce.  Awards totaling $16,000 will be handed out at Classics V Banquet and Conference Center.  Kenmore West High School Seniors receiving the awards are: Julianna Argenio, Abby Borkowski, Anna Cryan; Nyannah Harper, Eita Nanda, and Cassidy Oatson.  Sydney Merz, from Mount St. Mary Academy will also be receiving an award.  Women Returning to the Workforce Awards will be presented to Teresa Bompczyk of Kenmore and Tamara Smith of Buffalo.

Zonta Club of Kenmore to present awards

The Zonta Club of Kenmore will present awards to candidates in the following categories:

Graduating female seniors who reside in the Village of Kenmore or Town of Tonawanda, attend an accredited high school, and plan to attend college in September. Applications are available at high school guidance offices or career centers or by accessing Zonta’s website at www.zontaclubofkenmore.org.

Young Women in Public Affairs Award, which will be presented to a young woman age 16-19 who will be graduating from an accredited high school, secondary school or pre-university during the current school year. She must be civic-minded and interested in a career with leadership positions in social policy making, government and volunteer organizations.

 There also is the Sandra Ciampa Award for a woman who plans to attend an accredited college, university or business school or job training center in September for education to enter or re-enter the workforce, job training or job advancement.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 23. All candidates must be residents of the Ken-Ton area. For more information, call Jeanne Phillips, academic awards committee chairperson, at 860-7029.

Additionally, the Jane M. Klausman Woman in Business Award will be presented to a woman who will be in her third or fourth year of a business related degree program in September. This application is available Feb. 1.

The Zonta Club of Kenmore would like to congratulate the 2016 Academic Award winners:  Grace Cambria from Mount St. Mary Academy;  Christina Catalano from Kenmore West High School;  Elizabeth Codick from Kenmore West High School;

Christina Radder from Kenmore West High School;  Nora Salemi from Mount St. Mary Academy;  and Grace Simmons from Kenmore West High School.  What an amazing group of young ladies, with all the community service they do, as well as their academic achievements.

2018 Woman Returning to the Workforce Award

The Zonta Club of Kenmore is accepting applications for its 2018 Women Entering or Returning to the Workforce.  A minimum of $1000 will be awarded to a woman who will enter or re-enter the workforce.  The award is intended to help support expenses associated with professional and/or occupational development, including job training, job advancement or educational enrichment. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, business school or job training center in September 2018.

The award evaluation criteria include the following:

  1. Must be a woman entering or returning to the workforce
  2. Pending acceptance at an accredited college, university, business school or job training center during September 2018
  3. Must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  4. Two letters of recommendation (other than relatives) must accompany this application.
  5. Must include with your application a personal letter describing your educational and/or career goals and how the Zonta Award would help you attain these goals.
  6. Must participate in a personal interview with the Zonta Academic Achievement Committee.
  7. Failure to complete the entire application and/or failure to meet any of the above criteria may disqualify the applicant.
  8. Application must be legible.

Send completed application packet by February 23, 2018 in order that we may review them and schedule personal interviews in a timely fashion. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
